Metal Buildings Deliver Logical Solution for Developers of Family Dollar Stores

BARTLETT, Tenn., June 16, 2008 – The steady growth of Family Dollar stores has made metal buildings a popular choice for developers supporting the growth of the nearly 6000-store chain in 44 states. The retailer originated in 1959 and has leased 2200 new locations just in the past five years; most of them under 10,000 sq. ft., depending on whether they occupy space within existing shopping centers or locate in totally new standalone facilities. Developer Bob Shelton completed and leased this 9180-sq.-ft. store to the retail chain in late 2006 along a four-lane highway in scenic Hampton, Tennessee, east of Johnson City.

Parkway Contractors, a regional general contractor based in Chuckey, Tennessee, led the design/build project. The contractor has built 15 stores previously for Family Dollar and used James Bundy, AIA, Abbington, VA, for architectural services. This particular project followed a standard design adopted by the retailer. Liberty Building Systems, Bartlett, Tenn., supplied a mix of systems that included a rigid frame structural system, LibertyRib roof system with a Galvalume finish and LibertyRib wall panels with a white Kynar finish. Construction required just 90 days to complete the project.
