BARTLETT, Tenn., June 1, 2008 – As with any retail business venture, location is the very foundation on which to develop self-storage facilities. OBCompanies/Simply Self Storage recently joined the retail giant, Simon Property Group, in locating self storage centers adjacent to existing Simon malls. Simply Self Storage already ranks as the largest private chain of self storage centers with a portfolio of more than 200 facilities totaling in excess of 14 million square feet.
This three-story, 93,500-sq.-ft. center was completed last year at the Castleton Square Mall in Casleton, Indiana. In addition to an innovative use of vacant ground, Kiosks within the mall offer the self storage operator additional reach beyond the office staffed in the controlled-temperature rental facility. Designhaus Architecture+Design, LLC, a contemporary architectural firm based in Rochester, Michigan, served as the architects with refinements recommended by Strickland Construction Company, Olathe, Kansas, serving as general contractor. Design Build Corporation, Indianapolis, was the building erector.
Liberty Building Systems, Bartlett, Tenn., supplied the project’s structural framing which was engineered for 125 psf live load as required for light storage. Liberty also supplied the metal partition system for the units. The exterior is a combination of Metl-Span textured finished wall panels with synthetic stucco and blue eyebrow shades to establish identity for the entrance to the gated and camera-equipped center. The fully sprinklered building has an 11’7” x 17’8” elevator for upper level unit access/egress.
