| Liberty’s manufacturing plant in Selmer, Tenn., was one of many in the Butler organization that was honored by the National Safety Council with an Occupational Excellence Achievement Award for its safety record in 2006. |
“We are exceptionally pleased that the commitment to safety by our workforce has been recognized with this award,” said Pat Finan, president of Butler Buildings North America. “Equally important, the award demonstrates what can be accomplished in a safe working environment throughout the entire company while also achieving an increase in productivity."
The award is the first for Butler from the National Safety Council and is based on injury rates compiled from a wide range of metalworking companies, although Butler has earned awards in the past for safety. After being acquired by BlueScope Steel in 2004, the company’s safety program gained renewed emphasis resulting in a dramatic decrease in the number of recordable injuries. Each Butler plant in the United States and Mexico, including Liberty’s plant in Selmer, Tenn., received a plaque commemorating the award.
“We are so proud to have such an integral part in this national award, and every colleague in our Selmer facility should feel honored to be recognized for this accomplishment. This is their achievement,” said Matt Threadgill, general manager of Liberty. “This speaks to what we’re about every single day – the highest level of quality and safety for every project we undertake.”
In 2006, BlueScope Steel, the Melbourne, Australia-based parent company of Butler Manufacturing Company and Liberty Building Systems, awarded Liberty with its overall plant safety award, giving Liberty distinction over eight plants in the Butler family of companies.
